Too many of us old folks 😳

The senior population is growing faster than the general population.

Between 2008 and 2018, the population of Americans over 65 grew by 35%, while overall population growth was 7.5%. The government is spending more (adjusted for inflation) on Social Security and Medicare as the population ages. Social Security payments for Old-Age and Survivors Insurance increased 42% over the decade, reflecting a 26% increase in the number of recipients and a 13% increase in the average monthly benefit payment.

Meanwhile, total Medicare payments increased 33% as the number of Medicare enrollees grew by 32% and the average cost per beneficiary rose by 4%

It is a problem or shortly will be because our leaders have failed miserably at maintaining the financial integrity of both programs.

While the finances of these programs decline, any number of new spending programs are proposed. One can only wonder how they will be maintained going forward.

Actually there is no wondering about it.

  1. One major reason why seniors are ignored… they are the last vastly White generation who remember America before the evil cultural marxists destroyed it.

  2. Gov Cuomo reduced the surplus senior population in NY by sending covid patients to senior nursing homes.

Biden hasn’t done squat about Social Security…. in spite of the fact there is already a Democrat bill that would make SS solvent until year 2100 [The Social Security 2100 Act] that is ignored.

“No testing has overtaken you except ordinary testing. But God is faithful. He will not allow you to be tested beyond your ability, but when he tests you, he will also bring about the outcome that you are able to bear it.”
    1 Corinthians‬ ‭10:12-13‬

Sometimes paraphrased as: “God won’t give you more than you can handle”
A whole lot of disagreement on the translation, but from what I’ve read, it means God won’t give you “temptation” you can’t handle.

Social Security and Medicare budgets are another matter. The most common cure I see, and it is everywhere, is “Work longer, retire later.”
That doesn’t sound logical to me. Work longer doing what? Is your labor really needed, or are you just crowding out younger workers trying to get a start?
It’s not really a bad thing that we are losing more jobs to mechanization and artificial intelligence. Look at agriculture. Time was, 80 percent of Americans worked in growing or distributing food. Now it’s more like 5 percent. Instead of “losing jobs”, I call that “gaining more leisure time”.
As machines and computers take over more of the drudgery and danger of labor, why not use that to bring in the 4 day workweek and/or retire at 55? Get some cars of the road. Reduce the unnecessary waste of resources in “make work” jobs.
I think, instead of a dystopian world, our grandchildren may look back at us and marvel about how bad we had it “in the good old days.”
