My Opinion

New Green Deal Resolution – A childish, naive document that detracts from serious efforts to address issues facing our environment

Do we need to clean up our environment? Is climate change real? Yes to both.

Do we need to keep working toward cleaner energy? Do we need new technology to accomplish real results? Of course. In fact, the Ocasio-Cortez Resolution frequently uses the words “as technologically feasible.” Which means that much of what she wants is not and likely will not be within ten years. Many of her stated goals are being worked on and have been for years.

The Resolution is a rambling document covering every problem facing mankind from inequality to quality health care to the plight of native Americans. Take a look at the excerpt below.

There is no focus, but an attempt to cover every base. It is a naive joke in the face of a serious problem and reflects the naiveté of its sponsor. Or, is it simply grandstanding?

Focus lady‼️ You aren’t mixing from a cocktail menu.

Representative Ocasio-Cortez should have majored in psychology and world history instead of economics. Why not make your next Resolution banning war, racism, bigotry, slavery, bias, intolerance, xenophobia and every other fault of human kind since Neanderthals?

This document and more important the thinking behind it is seriously dangerous to the freedoms of Americans, unless you agree that the federal government is best suited to run every aspect of our lives.

EXCERPT

THE RESOLUTION

February 7, 2019 (9:55 a.m.)

Resolved, That it is the sense of the House of Representatives that—

(1) it is the duty of the Federal Government to create a Green New Deal—

(A) to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions through a fair and just transition for all communities and workers;

(B) to create millions of good, high-wage jobs and ensure prosperity and economic security for all people of the United States;

(C) to invest in the infrastructure and industry of the United States to sustainably meet the challenges of the 21st century;

(D) to secure for all people of the United States for generations to come—

(i) clean air and water;

(ii) climate and community resiliency; (iii) healthy food;

(iv) access to nature; and

(v) a sustainable environment; and

(E) to promote justice and equity by stopping current, preventing future, and repairing historic oppression of indigenous peoples, communities of color, migrant communities, deindustrialized communities, depopulated rural communities , the poor, low-income workers, women, the elderly, the unhoused, people with disabilities, and youth (referred to in this resolution as ‘‘frontline and vulnerable communities’’);

Whereas the United States is currently experiencing several related crises, with—

(1) life expectancy declining while basic needs, such as clean air, clean water, healthy food, and adequate health care, housing, transportation, and education, are inaccessible to a significant portion of the United States population;

(2) a 4-decade trend of wage stagnation, deindustrialization, and antilabor policies that has led to—

(A) hourly wages overall stagnating since the 1970s despite increased worker productivity;

(B) the third-worst level of socioeconomic mobility in the developed world before the Great Recession;

(C) the erosion of the earning and bargaining power of workers in the United States; and

(D) inadequate resources for public sector workers to confront the challenges of climate change at local, State, and Federal levels; and

(3) the greatest income inequality since the 1920s,

with—

(A) the top 1 percent of earners accruing 91 percent of gains in the first few years of economic recovery after the Great Recession;

(B) a large racial wealth divide amounting to a difference of 20 times more wealth between the average white family and the average black family; and

(C) a gender earnings gap that results in women earning approximately 80 percent as much as men, at the median;

Whereas climate change, pollution, and environmental destruction have exacerbated systemic racial, regional, social, environmental, and economic injustices (referred to in this preamble as ‘‘systemic injustices’’) by disproportionately affecting indigenous peoples, communities of color, migrant communities, deindustrialized communities, depopulated rural communities, the poor, low-income workers, women, the elderly, the unhoused, people with disabilities, and youth (referred to in this preamble as ‘‘frontline and vulnerable communities’’);

  1. AOC dream of getting rid of airplanes and using electric high speed rail in her GND took a big hit last night. California Governor announced that they will only complete 119 miles out of a 520 mile route at a cost of somewhere between $77B to $98.1B. The original price was to be $13B. I guess California just couldn’t print the money like she wanted the feds to do.

  2. Ocassio-Cortez graduated from Boston University, widely regarded as an established and legitimate university. Yet in her written and spoken speeches, interviews, tweets etc., she gives the impression of someone still in high school. How did that happen? How many professors gave passing grades to a student who did not understand the material. How many courses did she take that were utter fluff without academic merit?

    Various publications provide rankings of universities which are widely discussed, and feared. Boston University, however it is ranked by whatever publication, should include an asterisk beside this university’s name, ” * Alexandria Occasio- Cortez alma mater. “

      As far as Climate Change is concerned – Sure it is happening, but what is a few degrees warmer going to do to our planet? Nothing of great concern as far as I know. I live in Montana it is currently zero degrees and we will not be back above freezing until sometime in March. I had a hard time finding a parking space at Wal-Mart yesterday. When the temp was over 100 degrees last summer I still had problems finding a parking space at Wal-Mart.

      Like my sister said today -10 feels just as cold as -15 and 100 feels just as hot as 105, so why is everyone so worried about Climate Change? My answer- Because of all the doom and gloom news reports on the TV, brought to you by the Mainstream Media Propaganda machine.

      Of course all the college research departments are on board the Climate Change train, otherwise they would not get any of the billions of grant dollars that our stupid politicians hand out each year.

      I have an Avionics background and way back in the 1970s in USAF Computer class I learned the term GIGO. Garbage In Garbage Out That is exactly what the Computer Climate Change models are GARBAGE! There are just to many things that effect climate and to many data points to ever come up with a correct climate model, that is going to tell you anything about climate 80 years from now. .

  3. AOC is a very dangerous women and the young people are just swallowing this stuff whole because it is going to be “free”. On the day that GND was released, some of the media picked up from her personal website, 8 FAQ summary bullets. One of which was: “ECONOMIC SECURITY TO ALL WHO ARE UNABLE OR UNWILLING TO WORK”. Later in the day this page was removed from her site but archived copies can be still be found on the Internet to view for yourself. The line is not in the actual 14 page resolution but it shows the mentality of the new socialist democrats. All the democrats presidential candidates jumped onto the GND bandwagon.

    As far as climate change, the Earth has gone through 5 ice ages, which means that the Earth has warmed 5 times. Is man helping? Yes because there are now 7.7 billion people on this planet. It would be a little hard for man not to aid in the heating of the planet but man has to survive. One good volcanic eruption and the world can have a mini nuclear winter again like in the past. But does this mean man should not try to slow our impact? No, it just has to be practical. And you do not need a socialist government to do it either.

    My brother [NASA scientist] is part of a climate study group which began as all NASA. He is what one might call a climate change moderate. While it is obvious man has altered nature causing some climate change, the radical greens are using unreasonable fear of climate doom and gloom to promote their leftist socialist agenda.

    As for Ocasio-Cortez… she is so over-the-top radical… she alone may ensure Trump gets reelected… and that’s fine with me.
