I know I didn’t fully understand the spousal coverage until a few years before retirement. It is one short unbolded sentence at the bottom of a page of the plan description. Reading and understanding the words are one thing, but applying them are another thing. I am still struggling in applying my retiree medical plan because they are not exactly the same as my old medical plan. Once Medicare kicks in, I’ll have to learn the game all over again.
For the good news, most companies have solved that problem by getting rid of pensions and medical. You now know that it is every man and woman for themselves and if not you are a fool.
