The equal pay disgrace … the fake narrative courtesy of Bernie Sanders

What’s a disgrace is Sen Sanders. I used to think he was sincere but naive, now I’m not so sure. Is he just uninformed or just another political opportunist who seeks power through creating division in America?

Hey Bernie, it’s been illegal to pay men more than women in the US for fifty-five years. 🤪

What does equal pay actually mean and why is there no such thing in reality. Try this post for some ideas.

President Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act in 1963. It made it illegal to pay a woman less than a man while doing the same job. Sanders data above has little to do with discrimination but rather many complicated factors that are not going to change by laws. Surely even Sanders does not propose equal pay without regard to experience, skill, results, etc. Or does he? He certainly appears to ignore facts that don’t fit his ideology. Promoting this misleading information is dangerous‼️

Here is what the Equal Pay Act says. It appears Iceland is 55 years behind the US.

MINIMUM WAGE

SEC. 206. [Section 6]

(d) Prohibition of sex discrimination

(1) No employer having employees subject to any provisions of this section shall discriminate, within any establishment in which such employees are employed, between employees on the basis of sex by paying wages to employees in such establishment at a rate less than the rate at which he pays wages to employees of the opposite sex in such establishment for equal work on jobs the performance of which requires equal skill, effort, and responsibility, and which are performed under similar working conditions, except where such payment is made pursuant to (i) a seniority system; (ii) a merit system; (iii) a system which measures earnings by quantity or quality of production; or (iv) a differential based on any other factor other than sex: Provided, That an employer who is paying a wage rate differential in violation of this subsection shall not, in order to comply with the provisions of this subsection, reduce the wage rate of any employee.

Hey Senator Sanders, could this have anything to do with it?<a href=”https://statisticalatlas.com/United-States/Educational-Attainment”>Statisticsatlas.com

  1. If I am an employer and can find women who are willing to a job for a certain wage, why would I ever hire a man at a higher rate of pay to do the exact same job and achieve the same productivity? As an employer I am only worried about my bottom line which is increased by reducing labor expense.

  2. Yes, the Equal Pay Act in 1963 made it illegal to pay a woman less than a man while doing the same job, however, the reality is, in too many situations, there is a difference in what men are paid versus women. And all of it is legal due to the exceptions you quoted above- “(ii) a merit system; (iii) a system which measures earnings by quantity or quality of production; or (iv) a differential based on any other factor other than sex.” And, apparently, based on his comment above, JRATT is aware of the inequality in pay.

      • No, I do not believe that everyone should be paid the same regardless of the quality or productivity of their work. However, the reality I have observed is that men make more than women for the same job (health care) and tend to rise faster in management based on subjectivity in “(ii) a merit system; (iii) a system which measures earnings by quantity or quality of production; or (iv) a differential based on any other factor other than sex”.

      • Then that’s discrimination and it’s illegal. On the other hand, during 50 years working in a large corporation I observed the opposite as well where new jobs were created specifically for women to advance them to higher levels and higher pay. No system involving people will be perfect. But the point is that the differences quoted by Sanders have virtually nothing to do with discrimination.

      • My personal experience is when government gets involved trying to solve this issue, it only results in more discrimination. When I was in high school during the late 1970’s, I wanted to be a firefighter. At the time, every police and firefighter civil service were tied up in court until almost the mid 1990’s. Unless I was a black female veteran, I was not going to get a job without connections being a white male. I am not trying to start something, that is just how it was back then.

I should be thanking the government for forcing me to take a different career path because I made a ton more money than if I was a civil service firefighter.

  3. Bernie and the left are idiots. Employers would just love for the government to enforce a stupid law like equal pay. They could just as easily lower the pay for males to what they are paying females problem solved, NOT!
