Repeal and replace … with what?

“Obamacare should be repealed and replaced with health care choices … at a price you can afford.” – @JohnCornyn #RepealObamacare

I wonder if these guys stop and think how dumb they sound?

Your health insurance is affordable. See how easy it is‼

The only way a replacement can lower premiums is to lower the claims that are paid. Now think of all the ways that could happen. Then think about where those costs will go.

  1. Where in the Texan’s statement does he suggest that premiums should be reduced. He says: “at a price you can afford.”

Define that. What does he mean? And, that is the problem.

As we have posted here, over and over and over, most Americans want someone else to pay, and as I have often said “people want the best health care coverage YOUR money can buy.” Too many Americans are overextended, and they live paycheck to paycheck – where all income is committed to other stuff. So, “afford”, if we allow that term to be defined by each individual American, would be something more likely to approach $0 than to approach the actual cost of coverage.

Finally, his promise is not greater nor any less stupid than promises like “if you like your plan, you can keep it”, “if you like your doctor, you can keep him”, “cost of family coverage will decline by $2,500” and other such crap.

  2. “The only way a replacement can lower premiums is to lower the claims that are paid. ” That may be true if:

    1. All current health insurance companies are at peak efficiency and effectiveness,

    2. All current health care insurance companies are in perfect competition.

    3. All current health insurance companies pay their own employees at optimally competitive rates.

    4. All current health care insurance companies offer optimally competitive health coverage.

    5. All current health care insurance companies deliver optimum return on investment to shareholders.
