Changing the paradigm from employers providing selections for employee health plans to providing fixed dollar amounts to let employees purchase their own health plan would be a monumental change.
This would require discipline on the employee to choose a plan to suit their family needs much like their need to purchase auto insurance. It would also give government the ability to tax those payments as income.
The positive outcome would get employers out of the health and other insurance business like dental, legal or pet insurance.
This dramatic change would have to occur over time in order to have employees and unions embrace this concept.
