Burried in the pending health care (oops, insurance) reform legislation-HR 3200 is a new tax on employers of $2 per covered life (not per employee) to fund comparative research. Employers can think of it as PBGC for health care.
That means if you have 5,000 employes you will pay perhaps $20,000 more, that is assuming the two bucks stays at that rate.
I’m guessing comparative effectiveness is a good thing, but maybe the tax belongs on the AMA or a per patient charge on physicians and hospitals, it’s not employers or insurance companies that provide the health care.
